Contract for widening of Fanling Highway from Tai Hang to Wo Hop Shek Interchange signed

The Highways Department today (August 8) signed a $2,510 million contract with China State Construction Engineering (HK) Limited for widening of Fanling Highway. 

Under this contract, a 2 km-long section of Fanling Highway between Tai Hang and Wo Hop Shek Interchange will be widened from a dual three-lane carriageway to a dual four-lane carriageway.  The works also include the re-alignment of a 1.2 km-long section of Tai Wo Service Road West and a 1 km-long section of Tai Wo Service Road East; construction of a vehicular bridge (cum walkway) at Kau Lung Hang; and demolition and reprovisioning of five existing footbridges and associated noise barriers. 

The Director of Highways, Mr Lau Ka-keung, said at the contract signing ceremony that the awarded contract was the last civil works contract for the Widening of Tolo Highway/ Fanling Highway between Island House Interchange and Fanling Project.

The widening project is being implemented in two stages.  Stage 1 works for the widening of a 5.7 km-long section of Tolo Highway between Island House Interchange and Tai Hang commenced in August 2009 and are scheduled for completion in 2014.  Stage 2 works for the widening of a 3 km-long section of Fanling Highway between Tai Hang and Wo Hop Shek Interchange will be implemented under two contracts.  In addition to the contract signed today, the remaining 1 km-long section of Fanling Highway between Nam Wa Po and Kiu Tau will be widened under Civil Engineering Development Department's Liantang/ Heung Yuen Wai Boundary Control Point Site Formation and Infrastructure Works – Contract 3, which commenced in July 2013.  The whole project for widening of Fanling Highway is scheduled for completion in 2018.
