Road Network

Hong Kong's road network is amongst the most heavily used in the world. In September 2024, the public road network of Hong Kong is about 2,241 km in total length – 450 km on Hong Kong Island, 482 km in Kowloon and 1,309 km in the New Territories respectively, with over 811,000 vehicles travelling, together with the dense development and the undulating terrain, bringing considerable challenges to the road maintenance works of the Highways Department.

There are 21 major road tunnels, 1,478 flyovers and bridges, as well as 1,622 footbridges and subways in Hong Kong to keep people and goods on the move.
