HyD proactively follows up on fatal work accident at Hong Kong Link Road works site
The Highways Department (HyD) is highly concerned about the fatal work accident yesterday (March 29) at the works site under the "Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (HZMB) Hong Kong Link Road - Section between HKSAR Boundary and Scenic Hill" project (HyD contract no. HY/2011/09). The relevant works in the works site have been suspended. The HyD and the consultant's resident site staff held a meeting with the contractor this morning (March 30) to follow up the incident. The contractor was instructed to immediately conduct a comprehensive safety review of the works site to ensure the works safety.
An independent investigation team led by the HyD's Deputy Director has been set up to investigate the cause of the accident in order to prevent recurrence of similar accidents and to look into measures to improve site safety. Members of the independent investigation team have no connection with the HZMB project. The team will submit a report to the Director of Highways in three months. The HyD will make the investigation findings public and take appropriate follow-up actions.
The HyD reiterated that the department is at the same time fully co-operative in the investigation of the work accident by the Labour Department.
