Recycling Waste Rubber Tyres for Production of Bituminous Pavement Materials
The Government has been striving for reusing, retreading and recycling waste tyres for protection of environment. Highways Department (HyD), in collaboration with the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, has concluded in a study that it is technically feasible to add crumb rubber into the traditional bituminous pavement materials including wearing course, base course and roadbase. Site trials are being carried out to test its performance with a view to establishing a set of criteria for application of these rubberized bituminous pavement materials.
